Cloud Video Recording, Retention & Access | PGC

Cloud video: recording, retention, and access explained

Remote video access and cloud recording are related, but they are not the same feature. A system may let you view local recordings remotely without storing a separate copy of those recordings in the cloud.

Know where recordings are stored

  • Local recording: video is stored on equipment at the property.
  • Cloud recording: video is stored through the selected cloud platform under its service configuration.
  • Hybrid recording: a supported combination of local and cloud functions is used.

The actual design determines what remains available during a device, power, or internet interruption. Do not assume that remote access means automatic cloud backup.

Confirm your retention requirements

Retention is the period for which recordings remain available under the system's configuration. Confirm whether the service covers continuous footage, selected events, or another recording mode. Storage capacity, settings, connectivity, and the selected service may affect what is retained.

Define user access

Identify who needs live viewing, playback, exports, or administrative access, and for which sites. Keep access aligned with job responsibilities. Account changes should go through your organization's authorized administrator.

Questions to ask before selecting a service

  • Which cameras and recording modes are included?
  • What retention period is included, and how is it verified?
  • What happens if the internet connection fails?
  • What can each user view, export, or change?
  • Which subscriptions, support services, and recurring charges apply?

Ask PGC to review your video requirements. Recording and support commitments should be confirmed in your project scope or service agreement.
